Children's Picture Dictionary - A to Z Flash Cards

What it is: a set of 1700 searchable flashcards and a simple word/picture matching game

What you do with it: browse through the cards (swipe through sets of pictures starting with a given letter or use the search function), touch a word or a picture to listen to the word or the sentence containing the word in the picture. In the game mode try connect sets of random pictures with corresponding words.

What we liked: number of pictures/words, ease of use.

What we didn't like: limited functionality: there are no word definitions, just words and (sometimes rather abstract) sentences containing these words ('garden'/'on hot afternoons she likes to relax on a shady garden'). The choice of pictures is not too good, in some cases the illustrations are abstract (e.g. 'artistic', 'past') or can even be a bit misleading (e.g. in the picture illustrating the word 'arm' you get a man presenting his biceps). We believe parental assistance is necessary for explaining the meaning of pictures and words.

Bottom line: in our opinion this app would be much more suitable for adults learning English as the second language.
