Boats - Byron Barton

What it is: an interactive book about various types of boats.

What you do with it: listen to the narration, move the objects on pages, tap them and their name will be displayed and read out.

What we liked: the book itself, simple illustrations, animations and interactions, professional narration, sounds and sound backgrounds.

What we didn't like: the picture/word animations can be distracting for younger kids (we would like to see an option to turn them off completely). The use of iOS system menus for some navigation actions. No option to turn the narration off. Prominent ads for other books from the publisher.

Bottom line: an (almost) perfect alternative to the traditional version of the book.
